You promised me (us) you’d give us one or two reasons for voting for the Democratic Harris-Waltz ticket over the Republican Trump ticket.
Did you do it and I missed it, or were you simply not able to come up with any reasons?
If not, doesn’t that mean you should not vote for either party, or, rather, let me inquire: if you do vote for the Democratic POTUS ticket without a reason is that “objective”?
Or is voting for a Democrat because they are not Republican a valid reason this time around?
If so, it sounds like you are arguing that an absence is a substitute for a presence which I disagree with because to our human mind there is no such thing as an absence (BiO Spiritualism Principle #N: everything is something to a Human Mind.)
Sometimes one's emotions can be ahead of one's thinking (Branden, somewhere) and this election could very well be one of those times.
I agreed to your recommendation in 2020 to vote for Biden but since I am now “A Never Marxist” I of course can’t vote for Democrats who have become Marxists to the core just like you are accusing Republicans of becoming “hippies” to the core.
Since Marxists, philosophically are Kantians and “hippies” are emotionalists I think since Kant is the evilest philosopher to have ever existed (Ayn Rand somewhere) you haven’t made the case that being an emotionalist is eviler.
Hence, you should vote for the lesser of two evils.
Unless I also misunderstood this is what you were advocating.
If so then I agree, vote your conscience and become a guard dog.
I would like to offer five reasons for voting for Harris.
1. The cultural corrosion evident in demonizing one's opponents: that started on the left. It used to be the right were the upholders of decent behavior toward our political rivals. No more. I have seen and felt this decline up close--my worst behaved students are little Trump wannabes with no respect for rules, decorum, truth, or honesty. Since she has run a more elevated campaign, certainly more so that Hillary Clinton's "basket of deplorables," and frankly more so than Biden, who can't seem to avoid stupid remarks about Republicans. I would hope the culture tone can begin to heal.
2. Harris will support Ukraine and the international order as constructed since 1948, with the western democracies leveraging collective security.
3. If she loses, she will respect the will of the people. If she loses in 2028, she will do the same. She has a bedrock respect for the law, our military, and our constitutional system.
4. I expect Harris will govern like a moderate, though attacking "price gouging" does not encourage me.
5. She will not increase tariffs or interfere with international trade. I expect, once she is free of Biden and sworn in, we may see lower tariffs, since Biden did not have the sense to reduce or eliminate Trump's unilateral tariffs.
The Free Press has a good debate between Sam Harris and Ben Shapiro. It's a worthwhile 2 hours.
A fair question. It's going to take me some time to reply to this, but as of right now I plan to take the time, unless the Democrats get elected and screw up the country so badly that it will be the answer.
Love the "hippies of the right" integration. I know Rand meant it for libertarians, but it fits MAGA to a T. Pure emotionalism, and proud of it. They're proudly spouting: "Don't come to us with your principles and standards and stuff. I do what I please and say what I please whenever I please and wherever I please! That's my standard!" And that's why they love Trump. He embodies that "standard" more than anyone.
Coming in at Numero Uno: You shall have no other gods before me….It will forever dismay me how many former friends of mine, let alone political commentators I used to follow and admire, most of whom profess to be Christians, gave into this vulgarian conman’s grift. “He’s a fighter”. A minority, majority of my formerly beloved political party nominated a Ill Douche wannabe completely forsaking three thousand year old Torahnical wisdom. Speaking of hippies of the right, the formerly sane Dennis Prager used to like to say there surely will be a special place in hell for M.T.V. executives, not to mention call North Korea the biggest concentration camp on Earth….So, to wit, I wouldn’t want to be anyone involved with producing the D.P. Show when I stop breathing, let alone a devout Trumper
But I should like to say to you Robert, your completely leaving out for most dishonorable mention and what I have always found most disqualifying and disgraceful about The Don…his praising three little pigs, not so different ones..”Savvy genius” Putin…”’My friend’ Xi”…and his delightful praising of Kim Jong Un “love letters”. Yes, on behalf of millions of those three evil doers innocent victims yearning to breathe free, I will say the most disqualifying quiet part out loud, and for the love of the greatest country on Gods green Earth…Calgon take him away. Gotta run on. Thanks for taking my rant An Atheist that still Reads The Holy Bible. Ashli Babbitt still cannot be reached for comment Peace through superior mental firepower
Interesting connection you've made between 60's hippies and modern MAGA. But to me, the really big question is still: why is it working? Based in history and the polls, 45-47% of American voters support Trump. Why?
I think Trump has completed the intellectual decapitation of the Republican party; but he is for nearly half the country the only voice fighting against the increasing acceleration of the drift to the Left, so they are responding emotionally (and in many cases blindly) in defiance. As Ayn Rand stated many decades ago, the American “sense of life” could protect us against dictatorship for only so long without an intellectual foundation. It seems with this election like we are coming closer to the end of that protection.
Great question. I'd have to go back to religion, plus also the deplorable state of education. Both handicap our critical thinking skills and prepare us to follow an authority. Oh, and also, I think our natural state is feeling good by being angry at outsiders (chimps vs. other chimps). It takes effort to control our emotions and think in principles. That kind of effort doesn't feel as good in the moment as giving in to our primal urges of mob rage. In essence, it's the same reason the hippies were the way they were in the 60s: It felt good...for a while.
Did I miss something?

Where do you get "a Marxist to the core"? On what evidence is that based?
