"Prophet" come from a Latin version of a Greek equivalent, "prophetes," and it seems the secular translation would be closer to "interpreter," which is even better for my purposes.

"Messenger" is the meaning of the original Akkadian word "nabu," borrowed by the Hebrews as "navi."
