When I attended the debate at Catholic University between David French and the nationalist conservative Sohrab Ahmari, one of big things I discovered was how deeply committed the Christians in attendance were to the notion that we are living in an era of moral collapse. Considering the Catholic Church's big scandals in recent years, I suppose that's understandable--except that their narrative of moral collapse is projected outward, onto the culture at large, to which their troubled church is held up as the answer.
One of the things I've been wondering about since then is: What if we are not living in an era of moral collapse? Because we almost certainly aren't.
