I have a new piece up at Discourse, taking up the metaphor of an “Anti-Promethean Backlash” and proclaiming the need to have “Prometheus Unbound.” I’ll offer a few excerpts and repeat the link below, but first I wanted to fill in some of the context.
One of the most interesting positive trends right now is a growing consensus, across party lines and the usual ideological divisions, “that the world has lost some sort of spark of innovation and ambition, that we have stopped trying to create the prosperous and technologically advanced future we used to dream of and that we need to embrace a new ‘abundance agenda.’” This is how I sum it up in my article, which follows up on my recent discussion of the odd phenomenon of the “Supply-Side Progressive.”
The latest example is left-leaning economics blogger Noah Smith railing against contemporary America as “The Build-Nothing Country.”
