1. "The Social Distancing Culture War"
Part of the reason people are having a hard time adjusting to the coronavirus crisis is that it has been so long since we've had to deal with a real pandemic in this country. Quarantines and the shutting down of public spaces as a life-or-death emergency measure are almost outside of living memory. They seem utterly alien.
Back in the bad old days, these were just normal parts of life, and I've found a couple of useful guides to the history of "social distancing."
If you are despairing because your stock portfolio has gone down, spare a thought for the bleakness of life during the Black Death.
