Five Things You Need to Read Today
Editor's Note: Check out a long and interesting podcast I did a few days ago with a couple of libertarians who were interested in discussing nationalist conservatism, the Enlightenment, and the nature of reason. I knew I had no choice but to do this podcast when I heard its name: LocoFoco, a reference to my favorite obscure historical political movement.--RWT
1. You Will Never Be #MAGA Enough
On Thursday, I published a piece at The Bulwark warning that, just as you can never be "woke" enough for the Politically Correct left, "You Will Never Be #MAGA Enough" for the pro-Trump right.
The article is about President Trump turning against Fox News Channel, which has featured a reliable stable of Trump apologists willing to offer up rationalizations for everything he does. But they haven't done it in the universal and unblinking way Trump requires. Instead, Fox has allowed a few of its longtime hosts to express occasional skepticism about Trump's claims.
The day that piece went up, Trump took this to another level, attacking Fox News for not doing enough to help him get re-elected. No, really, that was his complaint.
"Many will disagree, but Fox News is doing nothing to help Republicans, and me, get re-elected on November 3rd. Sure, there are some truly GREAT people on Fox, but you also have some real 'garbage' littered all over the network, people like Dummy Juan Williams, Schumerite Chris Hahn, Richard Goodstein, Donna Brazile, Niel Cavuto [sic], and many others. They repeat the worst of the Democrat speaking points, and lies. All of the good is totally nullified, and more. Net Result = BAD! CNN & MSDNC are all in for the Do Nothing Democrats! Fox WAS Great!"
"All of the good is totally nullified, and more." Ah, well, sic transit gloria mundi.
But the really crazy part is the network to which Trump is switching his loyalties: One America News Network.
