Among my concerns is the concern that once Trump declares the Insurrection Act in effect, they will shut down--with the military--any protests by the people. I was a freshman in college when Kent State happened--the tragic loss of the lives of four students will seem miniscule compared to the potential numbers of people who will lose their lives.
Your words are all too true. In my own blog, I have been arguing, ever since "Trump v.United States", that we are living in a post-constitutional "interregnum". Chief Justice Roberts destroyed our old Consittution rather than confront Trump, and 330 million people are reaping the consequences. I don't know what the new constitution will look like, but the old one is dead.
One thing I wanted to point out, very specifically: the 8th Amendment prohibits cruel and unusual punishment even for those convicted of the most heinous crimes. Think Jeffery Dahmer and Charles Manson. This CECOT prison in El Salvador would certainly violate the 8th Amendment if it was in the United States. So, it's not only about whether or not someone gets due process and whether or not they're guilty of an actual crime.
Sending _anyone_ there violates America's principles and renders us as an uncivilized nation, as a baseline. Sending an innocent person there is pure, unadulterated evil.
One of the things this implies is that before all this is over, we're going to have to overthrow the Bukele regime and haul him back to the US in chains like we did with Noriega. It will be necessary to set an example for other foreign leaders that they risk everything if they agree to be the instruments of US authoritarianism.
To Witt, if “we’re going to have to overthrow the Bukele regime and haul him back…”, Ill Duce meets Tony Soprano in the flesh Donald J. Trump will have already suffered, endured and…for his dastardly sins against his fellow man and our sacred Republic. One can only hope and pray this will be his fate, not just a dream. Ashli Babbitt still cannot be reached for comment. Gotta run on. Peace through superior mental firepower

I'm so sorry you're right.

Thank you again for this work. Unfortunately, I don't think it is much of an exaggeration to say that "gang member" is the new "Jew".

Didn’t AR say that if fascism comes to US it will come from the right? ‘Ominous Parallels’ indeed.
No. You might be thinking of this one.
"I have stated repeatedly that the trend in this country is toward a fascist system with communist slogans."
The Ayn Rand Letter
"The Moratorium on Brains"
Yes. And I said recently that I think we all underestimated the possibility we would get fascism with the same old fascist slogans.
