History to End Once More
A News Roundup
I’m working on Part 2 of the article I started a few days ago, but in the meantime, I have some news items I wanted to talk about and clear out of the way.
By news updates, I mean things going on out in the world. I will cover the progress of the Ukrainian counter-offensive, the not-so-mysterious fate of Yevgeny Prigozhin, the new Moon race, China’s blind stumbling into economic stagnation, and AOC’s first step on the road from socialist to neoliberal.
But first, I have a few quick updates about what I have been doing on other sites.
I recently posted a research note on causation and emotions at The Prophet of Causation. The initial set of lectures is complete—and very well received—and they are still available there as recordings, audio or video depending on your preference. But I will eventually turn this into a book, so I occasionally post notes from my research.
I’ve also re-posted a couple of my old articles at The Free Market Futurist, including Part 1 and Part 2 of my series “We Are All Futurists Now.” Like I said, these hold up pretty well, though revisiting them after 10 years is a reminder that the future isn’t that fast.
Now on to the regular news updates.
They Will Break in the Center
The big news of the past week is the beginnings of the long-sought-after Ukrainian breakthrough in their summer offensive. And while meteorological summer may be winding down, we still have three weeks of astronomical summer left.
The breakthrough is happening at the Ukrainian town of Robotyne and the little village of Novoprokopivka just beyond it. This is toward the southern end of the Russians’ defensive line.
