Does Europe have a consistent enough philosophy to bind it together against Russia?
Unfortunately, I have my doubts.
In the US, until about 60 years ago, we were mostly united against the USSR, then cracks appeared in that alliance with socialists on the left taking over their party. Lately the religionists on the right favoring Putin have become ascendant. Both results were predictable given their basic tenets. Is Europe better or worse in this regard?
Also Orwellian is how the "carve-up" is reminiscent of the three competing world powers in 1984: Oceania, Eurasia and Eastasia.

100% correct. RIP America--at least for a while. Europe is now the shining city on a hill. If they can do it right.
